Our History

The Spirit of Christ Center & Ministries, Inc. was organized on October 5, 1983, in the unincorporated area of Miami Dade County, known as Carol City, Florida.

Founder, Pastor Cecil Lamb was called of God to start this dynamic movement with eight members. Worship service was held in the home of Pastor Cecil and Regina Lamb at 17955 NW 43rd Court, Carol City, Florida. The first Sunday service was held on October 9, 1983. God blessed us with thirty-seven in attendance and inspired us to continue in organizing the ministry.

Bible study was held on Friday nights in the Opa-Locka Neighborhood Center, located at 16405 NW 25th Avenue, in Opa-Locka, Florida.

On November 25, 1983, God blessed the Spirit of Christ with a place of worship in the Carol City Flea Market at 18200 NW 27th Avenue, Carol City, Florida.

Under the auspices of Pastor Cecil Lamb, the following ministries were organized: Sunday School, Christian Foundation, two Cell Groups, Mass Choir, Youth Choir, Senior Usher Board, Junior Usher Board, and a bookstore.  A 66-passenger bus was also purchased to start a bus ministry.

On June 9, 1985 the doors of 4100 NW 167th Street, Carol City, Florida, were opened to sixty-seven elated members. At that time Pastor Lamb began to share how every believer has been made the righteousness of God in Christ and how right standing affects every aspect of Christian life.  Six new ministries were birthed and organized. Love Choir, Peace Choir, Faith Choir, Joy Choir, Intercessory Prayer and Sunday Evening Worship Service.

Accelerating and united, standing in amazement at the King of Glory, on November 2, 1986 God the Father willingly and abundantly blessed the Spirit of Christ Center Family with a new building at 3360-62 NW 151st Terrace, Opa-Locka, Florida – also known as “The Warehouse.”

Pastor began to minister how church growth is not merely a matter of numbers, but a process which includes the individual growth of each member of the congregation, the health of the community, and reaching out to the un-churched.  As a result, the ministry grew to over six hundred fifty (650) members.

As of October 4, 1992, more ministries were established;  New Members class, Morning Maintenance, Care Group, Psalmists, Praise & Worship Team, Ushers/Greeters, Hospitality, Outreach Ministry, Singles Ministry, Women’s Fellowship, Children’s Church, Nursery, Prison Ministry, Leadership Class, Tape Ministry, Audio/Visual Ministry, Praise Dancers, Intercessory Prayer and Wednesday night Bible Study.

Accepting an offer we could not refuse, on July 3, 1994, the S.O.C.C. celebrated with a police escorted entourage of members and friends in grand fashion to a 17,000 square foot building located right here at 18801 West Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach – now deemed our “east location – and main sanctuary.”  The new facility included enough space for a Sanctuary, a Youth Ministry, Offices, Reception room, Foyer, Fellowship Hall, and classrooms.

On July 15, 2004, Pastor Regina T. Lamb went home to be with the Lord. She has left a legacy and spirit that will remain in the hearts and minds of everyone that knew and loved her for years to come. An annual scholarship has been named for her efforts in the development of the Spirit of Christ Child Development Center & Academy and the Women With a Vision’s “Daughters of Destiny.” This scholarship is given to “DOD” seniors that enroll in college upon their graduation.

In the fourteen years here in the east facility, SOCC added a television broadcast ministry entitled “Steps of Faith”, a training for those called to minister - Fishers of Men Ministry Development Institute, also known as “FMMDI”, and several other ministries including The Spirit of Christ Child Development Center, which is a private Christian school of excellence founded by Pastor Regina Lamb to raise up righteous seed starting with a Nursery, Daycare, and an Academy with grades from Kindergarten through 12th. Her loving and nurturing attitude, but no nonsense approach continues in her successors; daughter, Camelon Lamb-Pope, Principal and son, Corvin Lamb, Vice-Principal. There are several other ministries that were birthed and are active since moving to the east location.  In total, there are over forty-three ministries that have been established over the years.

We are now in the second phase of expanding the building at our current location.  Our purpose for expansion is to build a larger facility to minister to believers in this part of the world.  We would also like to expand our academy to twice its size in order to accommodate a larger student body.  If you would like to become a Vision Builder Partner and invest toward the expansion and growth of the church and school, please click on the link below.

The Lord continues to bless the Spirit of Christ Center & Ministries mightily.

We continue to witness that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask, or think, or imagine, according to the power that works in us.
